Vegetarian diet

The Vegetarian Diet pyramid is based on information from the American Dietetic Association. Vegetarian diet pyramid is a general nutrition guide which represents the recommended dietary intake of foods based on the food pyramid.

Vegetarian Diet pyramid has seven levels, ranging from minimum to maximum level of vegetarian diet. At each level, there are appropriate amounts of protein, fat, carbohydrates, fiber, calcium, vitamins and minerals.

Vegetarian Diet has adequate amounts of protein, fat, carbohydrates, and vitamins and minerals. Each food type can provide a variety of nutrients. In the following we will discuss some of these nutrients and where they can be found in foods.

Vegetarian Diet  Protein The main component of vegetarian diet is protein, especially meat, eggs, and dairy products. Vegetarians get proteins from wheat germ, beans, nuts, seeds, and vegetables. Protein can be derived from added sugar or soy products. Some people prefer to have milk as their primary source of protein. If you don’t like the taste of milk, there are substitutes such as soy milk, almond milk, rice milk or rice syrup. Peas, lentils, black beans, and pinto beans are excellent sources of protein.

Vegetarian Diet Vitamins Most of the vegetarian diet is made up of fresh fruits and vegetables, which provide most of the nutrients necessary for good health. Some of the main vegetarian diet nutrients are vitamins A, B, C,D, and E. Vitamin supplements can be taken to replace animal-derived vitamins. When eating foods high in vitamin B12, an active form of vitamin B, it’s best to eat eggs instead of meat. Other foods with vitamin B include enriched cereals, wheat germ, nuts, and wheat berries.

When it comes to finding fats in vegetarian diet, eat mostly raw nuts and seeds. Other foods high in fats include avocado, olives, sesame seeds, peanuts, chocolate, peanut butter, fried foods, etc.

Vegetarian Diet  Animal protein Sometimes, vegetarian diet consists of cow products. Animals are usually fed by humans, so there may be some nutritional deficiencies when feeding plants. Many people become vegan because of ethical treatment of animals. However, animals can receive all the nutrients necessary for good health with the proper nutritional treatment, as discussed in this article.
